I disagree with Kenneth Schmitz: gratuity is not the primary response to gift-- joy in the gift is the first response.

I have re-read the book 11 times now, and I think the only way I can express what I am saying is that the only possible expression of gratuity is joy. This book changed and constantly changes my life.
